Spring Cleaning and Sleep
Clearing out the cobwebs, giving things a lick of paint, out with the old and in with the new – we all know that for some of us, spring heralds a chance to revitalise our home, and indeed ourselves!
In this article, TEMPUR® looks at ways to feel rejuvenated this spring – whether that’s painting the house, brightening up your bedroom, or aiming to improve your sleep…
Give your bedroom a spring clean
Spring season is here – and with sunnier days on the horizon, many people love clearing out their house and freshening it up for the warmer months.
We all know how important sleep is for our health – so this spring, why not give your bedroom a new lease of life to ensure you get the best quality sleep possible?
For example, if you suffer from hay fever at this time of year, you’d be surprised how much dust a bedroom can harbour. Hay fever can cause sleep problems, so give your bedroom a top-to-toe dust and clean to remove any allergy-causing dust. You could also treat yourself to some new bedding or cushions in spring colours, to really capture that spring feeling.
To tie in with the spring theme, house plants look great in a bedroom, with the additional bonus of being natural air purifiers. Some house plants emit oxygen at night, which can improve your quality of sleep in no time at all.
To de-clutter and create more space, have a clear-out of clothes or items you no longer use. You could donate unused items to charity, or swap clothes you no longer wear with friends or family to revitalise your wardrobe.
Top spring sleep tips
With hotter days approaching, it’s important to keep your bedroom at the right temperature. Ensure your bedroom is well-ventilated and enough fresh air can get in – this will make all the difference to your quality of sleep. Adjusting the time you go to sleep and wake up will also help your body clock adapt to daylight savings time, meaning fewer slow and grumpy mornings.
As we all know, what we sleep on is incredibly important for our quality of sleep. A good quality mattress will give you the support you need throughout the night to stay cool and comfortable, especially as the weather starts to warm up.
TEMPUR® Material responds to your body’s temperature, shape and weight, helping you to have a deep and peaceful sleep, every night.
If you’re spring cleaning your home, it’s a good idea to clean your mattress to make sure it’s free from dirt, stains, or unwanted guests such as dust mites.
Spring clean your health
Sleep isn’t the only thing you can improve this spring – if you aim to improve your overall health and wellbeing this can also help you get more shut-eye at night.
For example, make the most of sunny spring days by exercising outside – try walking more and using cars or public transport less. Exercise has been proven to benefit your body and brain, so going for a jog will not only keep you fit and healthy but can help to give you an added mood boost too!
In our fast-paced society, many of us find it hard to switch off, constantly checking work emails or spending too much time on social media. This spring try setting yourself a challenge of using your phone less – and instead pick up that book you never got around to reading, or catch up with a friend you haven’t seen in a while.
